Microsoft Issues New Windows 10 Update Warning – Forbes

Windows 10 continues to be hit by an unacceptably large number of self-inflicted problems. And Microsoft’s latest warning to its users perfectly sums this up.

Steve Kotecki

Picked up by Windows Latest, KB4515384 – an update Microsoft released to fix the CPU spiking search problem – is not only causing new search problems, reports state it is breaking the Start menu, Action Center and USB connections while also causing audio problems

“Typical Microsoft, fixes the CPU usage by completely breaking search so it can’t even be used,” said one affected user.

“This update again introduces the same problem as the previous update,” wrote another on Microsoft’s Feedback Hub. “Part of the problem is a high CPU usage (~30%) and a totally broken search function. Currently, I see no other option than to blacklist this update also to prevent update [from reinstalling] again and again.”

Meanwhile, the Windows Latest reports the Start menu stops working for some users who have upgraded to KB4515384 with Windows 10 delivering the following errors: “We’ll try to fix it the next time you sign in” and “Critical Error – Your Start menu isn’t working”

For its part, Microsoft has now warned users about both issues, but this is just the start.

Windows Latest

“I tried [to] install KB4515384 on one of my workstations with no luck. Menu start stopped working with critical error and sign out demand. After uninstall latest CPU problem with start menu was solved but action center won’t open now. Windows 10 especially 1903 is the most bugged OS ever.” – source

“It breaks more than action center,” replied another. “Left click on calendar, left click on the volume icon, left click on the internet access icon… all of them fail to respond. Seriously, what a sincerely poor job on these updates… but please continue to force updates on me for my own good MS. Just Brilliant!!”

Windows users are always industrious and some have found workarounds for these issues while they wait for an official fix. But the fact remains that right now Windows 10 updates (particularly those for the 1903 upgrade which is still being forced upon users) are a minefield. And yet, there are some serious Windows vulnerabilities about so keeping your PC up to date remains important.

It is essential that Microsoft rebuilds confidence in its Windows 10 updates, but right now this looks like a mammoth task.
