What’s Gone From Fox’s Development Slate – Dark Horizons

Disney Fox Deal To Close March 20th

What has been expected for months was made official in an investment call this past week – that Disney has essentially gutted 20th Century Fox’s film development slate.

The studio had several hundred projects in development and while many would have never come to fruition, there were plenty that could have. That’s no longer the case as, short of a handful of films that were either in production or in active development (ala “Avatar” sequels, “Ford vs. Ferrari,” etc.), the rest were scrapped indicates Disney CEO Bob Iger.

The reason given was the disappointing box-office of some of the final Fox films Disney inherited after the takeover, most notably “Dark Phoenix,” though the justification seems dubious. In any case, a Reddit user has opted to compile a list of the nearly 300 films that were in development at Fox and no longer are.

Click here for the full list which includes a “League of Extraordinary Gentlemen” reboot, the Stephen King adaptation “The Boogeyman,” the “Die Hard” prequel “McClane,” the David Ayer-helmed “Last Man,” a reboot of “Flash Gordon,” the Ben Affleck-directed McDonald’s Monopoly true-story crime-thriller, a “Chronicle” sequel, an “Assassin’s Creed” sequel,” a new adaptation of Agatha Christie’s “And Then There Were None” and more.

The only Fox films that seemed to have survived include two “Kingsman” films, four “Avatar” sequels, “Free Guy,” “Death on the Nile,” “New Mutants,” “West Side Story,” “Call of the Wild,” “Fear Street,” “Underwater,” “Nimona,” “Woman in the Window,” and several films hitting this year like “Terminator: Dark Fate” and “Ad Astra”.

One that is also on the way is a new film in the “Planet of the Apes” franchise – one that’s expected to continue on from the three recent ones and it’s unlikely director Matt Reeves will return as he’s busy with “The Batman”.
